One Pod But Two WAY Different Peas

 
Between the momma-joy of watching Ben swim, Judah trying to "catch" Ben and help him to the steps, and Abe's hilarious but absolutely sincere attempt, I am just smitten to the core with the personalities of each of my boys. Lately there has been much blessing in seeing glimpses of how the Lord has gifted each of them and how He is growing them up into the men that they are called to be. While there is still much little to each of my men, there is also a forthcoming maturity that has been making itself present in small degrees. Sitting through big church without an admonishment to sit still. Putting away their bikes without having to be asked. Setting the table with FOLDED napkins :) All precious gems that have been diligently sought for and are now being mined by our family to enjoy. While this season of many young children is full to the brim with work and repetitious training, how thankful I am that our gracious Lord gives us sweet spots just like this, that we might be encouraged as we labor with Him and in His strength in the raising of these treasures.

Friday Funny-Perspective is Everything

Abe: "Momma! Their names are Ted and Ned! They must be brothers!"

According to the Boys...

{Ben sobbing hysterically and hands flailing with utter frustration}

Jer: "What's wrong Ben??"

Ben: "Daddy, I can't whistle! I can't fingersnap! And now I can't jump rope! I can't do ANYTHING."

{Amidst the chaos that is sitting down for dinner at our house}

Abe {enthusiastically!}: "Hey everybody! Let's play the Quiet Game!"

Jer: "No." 

Abe {deeply saddened}: "Why not daddy?"

Jer: "Because whenever we play the Quiet Game EVERYBODY loses!"

Abe: "Mommy, can we watch a BCD?" {a DVD?}

 

According to Abe: Thirty and Growing

Me: (Tucking my boy into bed.)

Abe: "Momma, I like your birthday even though it doesn't have a party!" 

Me: "Thanks, baby. Me too."

Abe: Momma, how old are you again?" 

Me: "30." 

Abe: "And how old were you yesterday?" 

Me: "29." 

Abe: "Oh." 

(contemplative pause) 

Abe: "Momma can you stand up?" 

Me: "Sure darlin. But why?" 

Abe: "Because I wanna see you." 

(longer contemplative pause) 

Abe: "Momma?" 

Me: "Yes Abe?"

Abe: "Thirty sure looks taller!"

 

Blameless Dorks?

One of our favorites around here is Steve Green's Hide Em' in Your Heart. It's usually on continuous play whenever we're driving. Although most of the songs are extremely catchy and fun, my favorite of them all has to be A.B.'s take on Philippians 2:14. He sings it throughout the day although his interpretation isn't what we would call, "Theologically sound."
