Checkin In

Man do I love these kids...

And man do I love it when they do this...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Lately, Ben has been obsessed with his camouflage rain boots. He takes on a whole new gait when he wears them. It's sort of looks like Godzilla walking on a bed of hot coals. And for some reason he thinks he needs to scream too. A lot.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Recently, I've been trying to introduce some books that have a bit more of a storyline rather than just sticking to the usual "Elmo Loves Cookies" route that we've been on forever. We've been enjoying "Chicken Little," "The Three Little Pigs," and even "The Gingerbread Man" but are looking for some more suggestions. The Deuce seem to enjoy any of the longer stories as long as the pictures are big and colorful and they have a lot of animals. Your thoughts? Maybe a trip to the library?

Love the boots! I read somewhere one time that young children like the same stories over and over because they like predictability at that age. I still have certain board books memorized and could recite them word for word with just a prompt. Yikes! Try anything by Laura Numeroff, Eric Carle, or Paul Galdone for variety.

I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see them so interested. So my first suggestion would be Bill Martin, Jr. books. The illustrations are great as well. A great many of his books address all the early oral language and phonemic awareness skills that your little men should start out with.; lots of rhyme, rhythm repetition, alliteration. etc. Once you pick one of these books up you will see why they are so ideal. His books build on the sounds (phonemes) that children acquire quickly and effortlessly which keeps them engaged and motivated to continue.
Happy reading!
